Whitehill Gas Storage
E.ON UK is developing plans to build a major underground gas storage facility close to Aldbrough in East Yorkshire.
In 2006, we carried out geological surveys across the area which confirmed its suitability for the facility and we've been gathering feedback from the local community and councillors which helped us in the development of our application, submitted in January 2007. A decision from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council is expected later this year. The table below shows the indicative scale of the project.
Whitehill Gas Storage Project
| Location | Aldbrough, East Yorkshire |
| Number of caverns | 10 |
| Capacity | 420 million cubic metres |
| Capability | 40 mcm/day |
| Cavern size | 80m in diameter x 100m high (approx) |
The project will consist of ten underground storage caverns which will be built nearly 2km below the ground. The proposed gas processing plant will be built at Whitehill Farm, which has been chosen for its natural screening.
