A public inquiry starts on 27 September into our plans for the revised six turbine proposal at Kelmarsh. This is expected to last until 7 October. The location is:

23 May 2011

Daventry District Council refused consent for our Kelmarsh wind farm on 15th December 2010.

Since that time we have been reviewing the project and we still fully believe that our proposal represents the right technology, in the right location to ensure energy security and combat climate change whilst also fulfilling the local need to conserve Kelmarsh Hall and its park and gardens.

It is our intention to submit a planning appeal. We expect that this appeal will be formally lodged in early June and we will update the website at that time.

Planning decision 15 December 2010

Daventry District Council refused consent for Kelmarsh wind farm. Whilst we are disappointed with the decision, the Planning Officer's report clearly confirms this is a well designed scheme. We fully believe that our proposal represents the right technology, in the right location and at the right time to ensure energy security, affordability and combating climate change whilst also fulfilling the local need to conserve Kelmarsh Hall and its park and gardens. Click to read the speech made at the determination meeting.

We are currently reviewing our options.

Supplementary Environmental Information submitted - 18 June 2010

The planning application for the proposed Kelmarsh wind farm was validated by Daventry District Council on 8 February 2010. After our application was submitted, changes in planning policy for cultural heritage/the historic environment took place with the publication of Planning Policy Statement 5: Planning for the Historic Environment. Also, English Heritage unexpectedly proceeded with the inclusion of the park and gardens at Kelmarsh Hall on the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest.

In light of these changes, Daventry District Council requested that we submit Supplementary Environmental Information (SEI) under Regulation 19(1) and this was provided on 18 June. The SEI documents are available for viewing and download from the planning documents section.

Planning application submitted - 12 February 2010

We submitted the planning application on 5 February 2010 to Daventry District Council and it has now been validated by the Planning Authority. The planning documents (including the Environmental Statement and Non Technical Summary) are available for viewing at the Council offices in Daventry, at Brixworth Information Centre and can also be downloaded from the Kelmarsh planning documents section on this site.

There is a 21-day period for representations which ends on Thursday 4 March 2010. Representations should be made to Fran Robinson, Planning Officer (East Team) at the following address, identifying that the correspondence refers to the proposed Kelmarsh Wind Farm and specifying the grounds for representation.

We'll be holding two information days at Naseby Village Hall on 24 February, 1pm to 8pm and Clipston Village Hall on 26 February, 1pm to 8pm, within the 21 day period for representations. The full planning application will be on display showing all aspects of the final scheme. We will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Public tour of Stag's Holt wind farm - 2 December 2008

A coach took a number of people from the local community to see our operational wind farm at Stags Holt, near March on 2 December. It was an enjoyable day and provided everyone with an excellent opportunity to get up close to a running wind turbine. If you missed out on the tour this time but would like to visit a wind farm in the future, please contact us.

Why Kelmarsh?

We were selected by the Kelmarsh Trust to develop a wind farm on the Kelmarsh Estate in Northamptonshire. The site has a good wind resource, is outside statutory designations (such as National Parks, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, etc) and there are no civil or military aviation safeguarding issues.

Community benefits

  • For the life of the project (20 years), E.ON would provide a community fund of around £28,000 per year.
  • Generate local employment opportunities during construction and installation -subject to the usual tendering process.

Community engagement

We held a public exhibition at Naseby Village Hall in February 2008 to introduce the proposal to the local community and provide the opportunity to ask us any questions they had about the proposed development. We also exhibited at the Kelmarsh Family Festival on 9-10 August 2008 and received a lot of feedback. We provided a public tour of our Stag's Holt wind farm on 2nd December 2008. We have provided online feedback forms and an email address so that the community can be fully engaged as the proposals develop. A full public exhibition was also held on 5 and 6 May 2009.
