Drakelow CCGT

In October 2007,we received permission to build a new 1,200 MW gas-fired power station at the site of the former Drakelow 'C' power station in Derbyshire.

The new gas-fired power station will comprise three high efficiency units that will produce electricity for around one million homes and businesses. The plant will be significantly cleaner than all previous power stations at the site and will play a key role in helping to keep the lights on at a time when around a third of UK power stations are set to close.

On 17th April 2009, E.ON submitted a new Section 36 planning application to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) for permission to extend our previously consented Drakelow gas-fired power station development with three additional generating units.

If granted consent by DECC, these additional units will give Drakelow the potential to become one of the largest and most efficient gas-fired power generation sites in the UK, with a combined capacity of up to 2,640 MW   - that's sufficient electricity for more than two million homes and businesses.

If approved the extension at Drakelow could be operational by 2017.

Work has already begun to prepare the Drakelow site for the first phase of the development and major construction work is planned to begin in 2010, with commercial operation scheduled for 2013.
