We were granted planning consent by The Highland Council to build Corriemoillie wind farm, subject to planning conditions. We welcome the decision and look forward to working with the local community in the future.

Planning Application to Highland Council

6 October 2010

We submitted a revised planning application on 6 October 2010 to Highland Council. The resubmission responds to feedback that we received from the community and consultees. We have improved the access track by applying to share one track with the adjacent consented Lochluichart wind farm. This would eliminate the need to construct miles of new track thus reducing the impact on the community and ecology.

Although it is not considered material to planning, we're committed to offering a community benefits fund if we receive consent. We are in negotiations with Highland Council and we have agreed to at least match the scale of fund that Lochluichart wind farm has promised. Therefore the fund would be based on £2.75k per megawatt installed capacity instead of £2.50k which was our previous offer. This boosts the value of the total fund from £2.7m to just over £3m to be paid over the assumed 25 year life of the wind farm.

Copies of our proposal are available at Highland Council offices in Dingwall and Inverness. Non Technical Summaries of the envrionmental statement or full copies of the entire application can be provided free of charge upon request. Contact corriemoillie@eon-uk.com. Thank you for considering our proposal. Please make representations to Highland Council before 22 November 2010. Representations that were previously made after our application in 2009 will not automatically be applied to the current application.

Why Corriemoillie?

The Corriemoillie site was identified following a rigorous site search which identified the most appropriate sites for wind farms in the Highlands.

The site layout has been designed to minimise any potential visual impact whilst remaining technically feasible and capable of satisfying all the constraints from various interests.

The Corriemoillie wind farm would:

  • Provide over 21,000 homes' annual electricity needs, almost 75% of homes in Inverness.
  • Save more than 50,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year*
  • Contribute to the Scottish Executive Renewable Energy Targets (50% by 2020).
  • Reduce reliance on finite and imported energy sources.
  • Deliver significant value into the regional economy over the project lifetime.
  • Provide a community fund worth over £3m over the project's 25 year lifetime.

Community Engagement

Public exhibitions were held in Garve during November 2005, where details of the proposal were on display with E.ON staff on hand to answer questions and provide further information.

*Based on the Government's long term marginal plant figure of 430g CO2/kWh
