In June 2007, we recieved planning permission from Sedgefield Bourough Council to build the wind farm following our application in January of the same year. Now operational, the 20MW site has the capacity to supply over 10,000 homes and displace 20,000 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide every year.
Why Butterwick Moor Wind Farm?
The Sedgefield Borough Local Plan is consistent with developments such as wind power in the right locations. The Butterwick Moor location was chosen following a site search which identified the most appropriate sites for wind farms in the area.
The Butterwick Moor site, which has been developed by E.ON, is immediately next door to the Walkway Wind Farm. By effectively 'extending' Walkway to include the Butterwick Moor Wind Farm, this has fulfilled the original vision for wind energy development and minimised landscape and visual effects.
The Butterwick Moor wind farm will
- Provide a community fund towards worthwhile local projects and initiatives
- Provide over 10,000 homes worth of electricity every year
- Save over 20,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year
