Bowbeat extension

Location Moorfoot Hills, Scottish Borders
Project scope 4 turbines
Turbine height To be decided
Total power Up to 9.2MW

E.ON is currently looking at the potential for extending the Bowbeat wind farm sited in the Moorfoot Hills on the Scottish Borders. When built in 2002, Bowbeat was Scotland's most powerful wind farm, capable of powering over half the households in the Scottish Borders.

The wind farm currently comprises 24 turbines, generating enough renewable energy to supply nearly 18,000 homes, displacing 35,257 tonnes of carbon dioxide, along with 288 tonnes of sulphur dioxide and 96 tonnes of oxides of nitrogen each year. We are looking at a proposal to extend the current wind farm and adding a further four turbines of up to 2.3 MW each.
