April 2009

We're delighted to have received planning consent on 7 April for the project.

March 2009

As a result of the consultation process the project has not received any objections from statutory consultees. We've had a met mast on the site since the Summer which has been monitoring wind speeds. A decision is expected mid 2009.

February 2008

We submitted our Blackstone Edge Wind Farm proposals to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council on 23 January 2008.

Details of the submission and the public exhibition held on 12 February 2008 are in the January 2008 newsletter below.

Why Blackstone Edge?

We identified Blackstone Edge as one of the most suitable sites in Barnsley. It has an excellent wind resource, it is outside statutory designations (such as National Parks, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, etc) and there are no civil or military aviation safeguarding issues. A minimum distance of 600m is kept from dwellings and Crow Edge, the nearest residential area, is 1km away with limited views of the site.

Community Benefits

The three wind turbines at Blackstone Edge would:

  • Generate enough renewable electricity to power up to 3,350 homes' and save up to 6,780 tonnes* of CO2 per year.
  • Provide a community fund of around £10,000 per year for the life of the project which is 24 years.
  • Offer energy efficiency advice, products and services promoting energy savings; this could include a micro wind turbine or a solar PV array for a public building (e.g. school/church/village hall), loft insulation discounts, energy efficient light bulbs and energy consumption devices to record home energy use.
  • Generate local employment opportunities during construction and installation -subject to the usual tendering process.
