Community

E.ON UK is committed to being a good neighbour in all communities where we operate. Throughout the development of the project, we are keen to work with local residents to become a valued member of the community.

We are committed to keeping everyone informed of our progress on the proposed development and continue to communicate with local residents through regular newsletters and public exhibitions.

Newsflash - successful fourth public exhibition held

Our fourth round of public exhibitions at Aldbrough Youth Club in July were successful with information on our proposals on display and members of the project team on hand to   answer questions.

Gas Storage Manager Derick Cottell said: "We were really pleased with the turn out - over 120 local residents came to see us and those who had been worried about transport issues seemed happy with our proposals for a haul road."

The planning process

We submitted a planning application to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) in January 2007. Local residents now have the opportunity to formally comment on our plans. The planning documents can be viewed on the ERYC website   which can be accessed via the link to the right.

In April 2007 we submitted a further application to build a temporary haul road for construction traffic to help address one of the concerns raised in consultations. We   have also submitted further information to the Council in an Addendum to the Environmental Statement to answer questions raised by the Council and other consultees. During the summer we will be submitting various other applications for the consents required to construct the offshore works including the seawater intake and brine outfall structures and associated pipelines.

Since the very early stages of this project we've carried out extensive surveys to assess the potential impact of the scheme as detailed in the Environmental Impact Assessment which accompanied the planning application. We have also worked hard to gather feedback from the local community and councillors which has helped us in the development of our application.

Derick Cottell, Gas Storage Manager at E.ON UK, said: "We've put this application in to help ensure the UK's lights stay on and people's homes stay warm as supplies from the North Sea decline and we become more reliant on imported gas.

"We're sure that everyone can see the benefits of this project and we want to be completely open at every stage and to keep everyone informed."

We hope that the application will be put before the planning committee for consideration by the end of 2007.
