The following key surveys have been undertaken as part of our Environmental Impact Assessment process:

  • Two years of aerial and boat based bird surveys;
  • Geophysical surveys to understand the sea bed;
  • Wind and wave data collection;
  • Navigation and marine traffic surveys;
  • Commercial and natural fish resource surveys;
  • Archaeological surveys;
  • Ecology and marine biology surveys;
  • Baseline noise measurements;
  • Visual assessments of the landscape and seascape;
  • Flood assessments;
  • Wide range of terrestrial ecology surveys (e.g. great crested newt surveys, bat surveys etc);
  • Coastal processes impact assessment.

All of the studies have been developed in consultation with the statutory authorities and the findings will be presented in our Environmental Statement.

The Environmental Statement will explain the potential impacts to the biological, physical and human environment and will include as a minimum:

  • Landscape/seascape and visual impacts study will identify and assess the effects of the proposed development on the character and appearance of the landscape and seascape;
  • Ornithology study will identify and assess the effects of the proposed development on both breeding and migratory birds;
  • Marine ecology study will identify and assess the effects of the proposed development on seabed flora and fauna, fish and marine mammals;
  • Acoustic impacts study will identify above and below sea level acoustic impacts both during construction and operation resulting from the proposed development;
  • Archaeology and cultural heritage study with assess the impacts of the proposed development on any marine or land-based archaeological features;
  • Coastal processes and seabed study will assess the potential effect of the proposed development on coastal processes, sediment movement and deposition, wave action, coastal erosion and the alteration of seabed morphology;
  • Water quality and flood defences study will identify and assess the potential impacts of the proposed development on water quality (both marine and fresh water), on aquifers and on flood defence schemes in the area;
  • Fishing and fisheries study will identify and assess the effects of the proposed development on commercial fishing activities;
  • Shipping and navigation study will identify and assess the effects of the proposed development on maritime users;
  • Aviation study will identify and assess the effects of the proposed development on radar interference, maritime communication and navigation signals, emergency frequencies, microwave communications, air traffic safeguarding, television and radio reception and other telecommunications;
  • Socio-economic study will identify and assess the effects of the proposed development on the regional and local economy to include tourism, educational and leisure activities and the road transport infrastructure.
