Job Purpose
Provide research and analysis of I.T. requirements for system developments or enhancements of business functions and processes. Provide Design Solutions to meet those requirements. Prepare Standard Analysis and Design Documentation to comply with internal I.T. documentation standards. Assist in Third Party Software Supplier Selection. The above will apply to both in-house I.T. solutions and 3rd party package solutions. The business requirements cover areas such as: industry process compliance, internal efficiency initiatives or commercial/contractual obligations. Systems Analysts may also carry out some of the duties of Test Analyst.
Main responsibilities
- Production of Feasibility Studies gathering information from business and I.T sources to consolidate information in a tangible manner for presentation to a range of stakeholders.
- Production of Summarised and Detailed Requirements from information provided by business and I.T sources. Presentation of requirements and achievement of stakeholder sign off.
- Production of High Level Designs detailing an overview of the solution to satisfy the Requirements. This will involve understanding of existing systems and processes and the design of new functionality or changes involving internal and/or external software. This may include Data and Process Modelling.
- Production of Functional Specifications detailing an end-user view of the functionality of the system changes.
- Production of Design Specifications detailing the low level program amendments to support the system changes.
- Management of Third Party Suppliers to cover Change Quotations and Requests For Change relating to software amendments.
- Participation in procurement activity relating to Third Party software solutions.
- Peer review of Analysis Documentation produced by other Analysts.
- Production of Analysis documentation to Department standards.
- Production and maintenance of Data and Process Models supporting the I.T systems.
- Production of Implementation Checklists and Plans for Projects and Change Proposals.
- Management of Implementation of Projects and Change Proposals.
- Management of software faults and tracking of fixes with in house developers and 3rd parties.
- Accurate Filing of all analysis documentation (electronically and paper-based).
- Performance of Impact Analysis on Change Proposals, including Business Justification, I.T. Costs and Payback Period.
- Monitoring of Change Proposals through the development lifecycle.
- Various applications support activities as defined in the Support Analyst job profile.
- Testing activities when required.
- Reporting progress against testing plans and highlighting exceptions.
- Assist In User Training Activity.
Key Skill Requirements
- PC Literacy (including MS OFFICE applications).
- Familiarity with DSE requirements.
- Familiarity with Data Protection requirements.
- Broad analysis experience on multiple projects/systems.
- Proficiency in the principles of relational databases.
- Proficiency in requirements analysis.
- Proficiency in systems design techniques.
- Proficiency in data and process modelling techniques.
- Ability to facilitate and take part in Analysis Workshops and discussions.
- Proficiency in analysis/design terminology.
- Proficiency in SQL and other database reporting tools.
- Proficiency in Software Implementation techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with colleagues and supervisors.
- A systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving.
- Effective in time management techniques.
- Familiarity with wider field of IT outside own area and how own role relates to other roles and the business activities of the company.
- Knowledge in the activities and business processes for the part of the organisation that systems are provided to.
- Familiarity with problem management techniques.
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance methods.
- Proficiency in internal analysis standards.
- Proficiency in liaison with 3rd parties for analysis and design related activity.
- Familiarity with code, to enable walk-throughs or problem investigation with developers.
- Familiarity with risk management principles.
- Familiarity with release management and implementation planning principles.
- Proficiency in estimation and planning of IT lifecycle.
