Rota Disconnection
Rota Disconnection is the planned disconnection of electricity to customers, for a set duration on a rota basis. Rota Disconnection is used only at times of severe shortage of electricity production in the UK, and even then, only when it is authorised by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.
The purpose of Rota Disconnection is to reduce the demand for electricity to the level of production that is available. This is achieved by dividing all the users of electricity into groups, called blocks. These blocks are then switched off, in turn on a rota, for minimum intervals of three hour periods. If the level of electricity shortfall increases in severity, more blocks are switched off resulting in more interruption intervals.
If it is necessary for Rota Disconnection to be applied by the Secretary of State, it will affect all the customers of the other Network Distribution Operators in the UK and not just the customers of Central Networks.
In the unlikely event of Rota Disconnection becoming necessary this website will contain the information you need regarding when you personally would be without power, tips on what you should do prior to the disruption and useful contact numbers.
