Garden Safely – a guide to using electricity in your garden

Mowing the lawn with a hover mover takes the backache out of the task, and using an electric hedge trimmer gets the job done much quicker than using a pair of shears.   However all electrical garden appliances need to be used with care to prevent injuries.

  • Switch off and unplug equipment before checking, adjusting, cleaning or repairing it.
  • Always fully unwind extension leads as if you use them whilst still rolled up they can overheat.
  • Never allow young children to operate equipment and always keep pets under control.
  • When using hedge trimmers pass the flex over your shoulder and ensure you work so that the flex is behind you at all times.
  • Make sure you mow away from and not towards the lawnmower flex.
