Strategic plans

Central Networks' approach to asset risk management reflects the importance of short, medium and long-term risk management together with successful mitigation through policy, planning, investment and recruiting and retaining the right staff.

Our process begins with the annual network review and an assessment of the network risks in accordance with Group Engineering Policy.

The output from the network review is considered along with the company objectives to produce a long-term Network Strategy. The Network Strategy outlines the company objectives and the drivers of the asset management business. It also defines the strategic intentions, the required network performance, network investment and network design.

The Network Strategy drives the production of rolling the five-year Network Investment Plan and the five-year Primary Network Plan. The Network Investment Plan contains all projects and programmes to be delivered over a five-year horizon, whilst the Primary Network Plan identifies all primary network developments required to ensure P2/5 security compliance.

This process then drives the subsequent work programme and delivery monitoring. Feedback data and routine reviews verify the performance of strategies and policies and serve to improve the asset risk management process itself.
