Transforming the education system for 14-19 year olds

The government is currently reviewing the education system for 14 to 19 year olds. The objective is that all young people will have opportunities to learn in ways which motivate and engage them and the government is currently working in close partnership with its partners and schools to develop its plans.

Introduction to Specialised Diplomas

These are new qualifications that are being introduced in 2008 for 14 to 19 year olds.

There will be different levels of diplomas and they should give young people the opportunity to experience a different style of learning and allow them to make a more informed choice of their future direction, either in employment or further education.

What is the purpose of a Sector Skills Council?

Sector Skills Councils work closely with employers within their sector to lead improvements in skills and get skilled workers into businesses to help raise productivity, improve performance and attract people into a career in the sector.

Central Networks works closely with its Sector Skills Council and Energy Utility Skills to try and improve skills and encourage young people into a career within the sector.

WorldSkills 2011

The government is currently preparing a formal bid to host the WorldSkills competition in 2011 in London.

The event will attract competitors from member countries across the world in an exciting event where they will battle against the clock to overcome difficulties that are commonly faced in the workplace.
