Safe working practices

Underground cables

These are some of the things you need to know:
•   Always ask for plans
•   Plans provide “approximate” information
on the whereabouts of cables. This is
because things placed in the ground will
naturally move and shift because of
things which are going on around them
and factors should as soil and weather
    conditions.

Use your plans along side “safe digging practices” which include:
•   Using cable location tools (cat & genny) to
    trace actual positions on site
•   Digging trial holes to identify cables
•   Use hand tools instead of machines
•   Use your common sense and if your unsure
then stop work, the job will still be there
    tomorrow but will you?

Overhead lines

Working close to overhead power lines can be very dangerous because they are not insulated or protected in the same way as underground cables are, so you need to take advice to keep you and others around you safe.

If you’re a commercial company then you should be aware of these dangers, if not please call the CableSafe number 0800 0150927 and ask for help.
