"We've set up a cross-business project group, which includes safety representatives and safety champions"
We engage our employees in health and safety through a number of channels. We work with trades union-appointed safety representatives, employee appointed representatives (who are known as safety champions) and through our established safety committees.
These representatives have access to the necessary support and, in our drive for safety improvement, we're taking a number of measures to enhance the effectiveness of employee representation in health and safety.
For example, we've introduced a new, in-house modular training programme, specifically developed for our safety representatives and safety champions. This is being rolled out in one of our businesses and will eventually be made available throughout our company.
We're examining how best to meet the broader training and development needs of our safety representatives and safety champions, including 'soft skills' as well as technical skills.
We've set up a cross-business project group, which includes safety representatives and safety champions, as well as functional specialists, to consider more deeply the support which safety representatives and safety champions need, and how their effectiveness can be maximised.
