Smart metering

Since December 2006, we've fitted around 6,000 Smart Meters into selected homes and businesses as part of a series of trials. As well as allowing people and businesses to monitor their energy consumption on a regular basis, Smart Meters can also be read remotely, limiting the need for manual meter reads. We're investing heavily over the next two years in trialling a range of new, sophisticated metering technologies, which eventually will mean that visits by meter reading agents will become a thing of the past.
