reducing their carbon footprint during the 100 Days of Carbon Clean Up Campaign

Last year saw our campaign to change energy in the business world reach new levels of awareness, through our partnership with one of the world's leading yachtswomen.

We launched a partnership with Dame Ellen MacArthur to help promote and tackle the issues businesses face in becoming more sustainable. Ellen runs her own small business and is well aware of the issues our customers face in trying to be more energy efficient.

During our three-year partnership, we believe Dame Ellen will be instrumental in helping us communicate our energy efficiency messages - and ultimately changing the way our customers view and consume energy.

We sponsored the 100 Days of Carbon Clean Up Campaign in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) which was championed by Dame Ellen. The launch gave her the opportunity to talk to customers about their energy saving initiatives as well as to explain what she hopes to achieve on her journey with E.ON. The campaign resulted in over 700 businesses reducing their carbon footprint. This is a great starting point and, with help from Ellen and ourselves, more and more customers are conducting business in a more energy efficient way.

Through her partnership with us, Ellen has also supported the National Energy Foundation and, in particular, their Energy Efficiency Accreditation scheme which awards businesses that have continually reduced their energy over a three-year period. We also launched the Ellen MacArthur Award for an individual who has proved their commitment to reducing energy in the workplace.

Dame Ellen has also launched a regional newspaper column in the Derby Evening Telegraph. The fortnightly column gives her a platform to address the issues around climate change, sustainability, environmental initiatives and more. As part of the column, Derby businesses and households are pledging their commitment to make changes to the amount of energy they use.

In addition to our partnership with Dame Ellen, we also carry out a number of other initiatives to change energy for our customers. One of the most popular is our Energy Efficiency Advice Line where our business customers are able to gain specialised advice on their energy use through a dedicated helpline. We also rolled out a series of innovative PR campaigns that helped us raise awareness of energy in general, both targeted towards organisations and individuals. Amongst them was the award for 'Britain's most energetic boss' for which employees across the UK could nominate their boss. Our Energy Lab proved very popular with the nation's budding inventors by giving them the chance to come up with new energy-saving inventions.
