2006 Corporate Social Repsonsibility Report - Community

Community

We recognise that our activities have an impact on those communities where we operate and may have consequences for future generations. So we believe we should play an active and positive role in the community.

Our community investment work relates directly to our core business. In 2006, projects such as our electric blanket testing programme for older people - We Test, You Rest - and our work to educate young people about energy demonstrated how we integrate our expertise and commitment to supporting our communities.

Highlights of our 2006 community programme included:

  • 2,738 employees engaged in our Employee Involvement Programme
  • 32,498 hours were volunteered by E.ON employees through our Employee Involvement Programme
  • £206,125 was given in donations to charities, community groups and not for profit organisations
  • in partnership with Nottingham Cares, we were the leading company in completing team challenges across Nottinghamshire
  • we helped educate 84,880 children and young people in the subjects of energy, safety and environmental awareness as a result of our community engagement
  • 5,093 electric blankets were safety tested through our partnership with Age Concern, of which we replaced 4,134.

Our goals for 2007 include:

  • extending our Employee Involvement Programme to 3,250 employees
  • growing our new educational programme, the 'Energy Experience', to reach more than 10,000 participating schools
  • investing in local community projects across Central England through our Safer Environment Fund
  • increased funding and support for community renewable energy projects
  • the continuation of help to vulnerable older people through our partnership with Age Concern.

Our strategy for Community Relations is to:

  • help build E.ON UK's brand reputation
  • meet the needs of individual businesses by engaging with key stakeholders
  • give all employees the opportunity to benefit from our Employee Involvement Schemes.

Here we describe our work in the following areas:
