Sandbach CHP plant is owned by Powergen Cogeneration and operated by Hays Chemicals Ltd., at Sandbach in Cheshire. The plant is gas-fired, consisting of a 43MW gas turbine and generator, an unfired heat recovery steam generator and a 14MW condensing steam turbine and generator. The plant provides Hays Chemicals with approximately 35MW of electricity and 2.4t/hr of steam. The main and bypass stacks are both 30m high. The gas turbine has dry, low-NO_x burners with continuous monitoring of NO_x and O². The re-circulating cooling water system includes a cooling tower with makeup from the Trent and Mersey Canal.
