Ohio Falls

  • Louisville Gas and Electric Company hydroelectric facility
  • Located at mile marker 606.8 on the Ohio River near downtown Louisville, Kentucky covering about 12 acres and part of the US Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) lock and dam navigation system on the Ohio River
  • Began operation in January 1928
  • Consists of eight generators with total capacity of 80MW
  • Each unit is a General Electric vertical shaft, revolving field, water wheel driven generator
  • Yearly operations are limited to run of river generation and averages 400GWh per year
  • The facility is located in the middle of a 1,400 acre National Wildlife Conservation Area featuring an interpretative centre located adjacent to an exposed bedrock area providing site visitors with substantial information concerning the geology, fossilised materials, and other resources associated with the area.
