• Trimble County power station
• Louisville Gas and Electric (LG&E) Company plant
• Built in eastern Trimble County on a 2,127 acre site near Bedford, Kentucky, the station began commercial operation in December 1990, with a net generating capacity of 495MW
• One of the most environmentally sound and technologically advanced coal-fired generation plants in the nation
• Its capacity increases the reliability of LG&E's electricity service and boosts the Company's ability to support economic expansion
• Its pollution-control equipment includes a high-efficiency electrostatic precipitator, advanced low-NO_x burners and a state-of-the-art wet limestone scrubber that removes more than 90 per cent of the sulphur dioxide from the flue gas. The station's generating unit can operate only when the scrubber is running
• Produces over 160,000 tonnes of gypsum, a scrubber by-product, per year for use in manufacture of wallboard for the home construction industry
• In compliance with the Clean Air Act's Phase II standards for sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions
• Burns 1.5 million tonnes of coal per year which is transported in 1,500 ton barges
• The natural draft, hyperbolic cooling tower provides efficient cooling of river water for reuse in the generation process
• Plant site includes a 114 acre wildlife reserve composed of wetlands and forested areas
• Starting in 1999, the facility partnered with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife to participate in the Peregrine Falcon Restoration Programme which, since then, has helped remove the falcon from the Federal Endangered Species List. This has included the installation of nesting boxes, non-intrusive fibre optic camera viewing and hatchling banding
• Illinois Municipal Electric Agency owns 12.12 per cent of the plant, and Indiana Municipal Power Agency owns 12.88 per cent
