Emissions of greenhouse gases

E.ON UK total CO2 emissions from generation, kt*

* kilotonnes

This graph reflects the use of fossil fuel-based generation to produce electricity. Total emissions of CO2 increased from 2004 to 2005 reflecting high natural gas prices and the consequent decision to run coal-fired plant in preference to gas-fired plant and the addition of Enfield Power Station to our generation portfolio.

(Note that pre-2005 data may differ from that shown in earlier reports following data clarification)

(Note that the 2005 figure does not include Humber and Speke CHPs, which were not reported in time for inclusion in this years report)

This graph represents the carbon intensity of our fossil-fuelled electricity generation portfolio. The acquisition of the Enfield Power Station in 2005 meant that our carbon intensity reduced from 2004 to 2005 despite high natural gas prices and the consequent decision to run coal-fired plant in preference to gas-fired plant.

In 2005 our power station's CO2 emissions were 28.2 million tonnes, of which 26.7 million tonnes were tradable, under the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) against an initial allocation of 22 million tonnes. We purchased the difference on the EU ETS market.

Details of other emissions to air are provided here.

Full details of the environmental performance of each our sites is available here and detailed environmental trend data going back to 1990 is available here.
