Long term energy policy

The Government needs to make decisions to make sure we (and future generations) have reliable and sustainable energy supplies. These decisions are not easy ones, as many factors have to be taken into account. For instance, energy policy needs to achieve secure supplies, reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, the elimination of fuel poverty and competitive prices. We are committed to helping the Government make these difficult decisions and sharing our expertise and experience with policy makers.
In February 2003, the Government set out its view of what it sees as important priorities when making decisions on energy policy. Its White Paper sets out these objectives and Powergen agrees with its view of the three challenges facing the UK - the environment, the decline of the UK's own energy supplies and the renewal of UK's energy infrastructure. We and other energy companies will have to make considerable investment.   However, we must all invest responsibly and must be sure that our investments will make a reasonable return. The White Paper does not have all the answers about the long-term market framework and we believe the Government's first priority should be to create an environment that encourages the investment needed for secure and sustainable energy supplies. We aim to work with Government to help achieve this.
