Powergen Corporate Responsibility Report 2001

Health and safety

Health and safety are a top priority for us across all our businesses. In December 2001 we adopted a Powergen Group Health and Safety Policy following the acquisition of LG&E Energy (LG&E) earlier in the year. This ensures that common health and safety standards are implemented across the whole Group.

Best practiceGym

Powergen aims for ‘world class’ standards of health and safety management and performance. We pursue this aim by making health and safety management systems a line management responsibility.

In conducting our business we:

  • Assess and manage the risks to the health and safety of our employees and others affected by our work activities
  • Implement and maintain management systems to ensure effective planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of health and safety measures
  • Promote working practices, standards of behaviour and lifestyles that deliver ‘world class’ health and safety performance.

The scope of our policy is wide-ranging - it is applied to all business activities carried out by Powergen. This means any business wholly owned by Powergen, any business over which we exercise management control and projects undertaken on behalf of Powergen. Where Powergen is a minority shareholder, or we do not exercise management control, then we seek to influence partners and other parties to adopt high standards of health and safety.

We have also established procedures for effective monitoring and audit of the implementation of our policy.
