Technical details

A telephone survey with a nationally representative sample of 1,946 adults aged 16+, in March 2007. Data has been subsequently weighted to the national population profile.

A face-to-face survey with a nationally representative sample of 524 children aged between 7 and 16, between March and May 2007. Data has been subsequently weighted to the national population profile.

Three qualitative workshops, in Banbury, Colwyn Bay and Glasgow. In each workshop around twenty people from a diverse mix of backgrounds (age, gender, socio-economic group and ethnicity) were included to reflect the local population.In Colwyn Bay, however, all participants were pensioners.

Four qualitative workshops with children, each involving 10 children. Two workshops were conducted in Newcastle, and two in Reading. One workshop in each location involved 8-10 year olds, the other involved 11-12 year olds.

Where percentages do not add up to exactly 100% this may be due to computer rounding, the exclusion of ‘don't knows’ or to multiple answers.
