Why should we be concerned?
The Stern Review and the latest the IPCC report have highlighted the scientific evidence supporting the theory of the enhanced greenhouse effect and climate change, making the case that our current way of life is having a negative effect on the Earth’s climate and that there is an economic case for tackling this issue sooner rather than later.
The true extent of these climatic effects is unknown but climate models such as those developed by the Hadley Centre help us understand the possible impacts and effects on our world. Predictions of the effects of climate change on the Earth include increasingly extreme weather conditions such as hurricanes and typhoons, heavy flooding and greater periods of drought.
Most of the predicted negative effects are expected to occur in regions that are already under environmental strain and largely affect vulnerable communities in less developed countries.
