The FA Women's Cup

The FA Women's Cup

While women's football has been played in the UK for well over a century, it's really during the past 15 years that it has seen a huge increase in popularity amongst both players and spectators.

At the heart of this success has been The FA Women's Cup, which has itself grown in stature to take its place as one of the leading competitions in the women's game.   Like its male counterpart, The FA Women's Cup Final now receives widespread media attention, with coverage on both national TV and radio.

E.ON became proud Sponsor of the competition in 2006-07. We celebrated with the clubs that won the E.ON Team of the Round Award and added our support to their Cup run by taking The FA Women’s Cup trophy into further clubs, schools and local hospitals at every stage.

For the first time ever, The FA Women’s Cup Final was played at the City Ground in Nottingham. With the City’s support, we smashed the attendance record by attracting a crowd of over 24,000, an encouraging sign of the growing support for the women’s game. The packed stadium saw Arsenal Ladies beat Charlton Athletic 3-1 to complete the quadruple for the year.
