Regulation
We work in a regulated environment where our activities are regulated and overseen by a number of statutory bodies in the UK.
The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) has a statutory duty to protect consumers' interests. Ofgem also regulates the electricity distribution networks, agreeing price controls and monitoring service levels in these monopoly businesses.
energywatch is the industry's independent watchdog, charged with offering free and impartial advice to consumers.
Our environmental performance is regulated by the Environment Agency in England and Wales, and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency in Scotland. A number of aspects of our business are also regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), including the trading of energy and the sale of insurance products to customers.
