2006 Corporate Social Responsibility Report - Stakeholder engagement

Stakeholder engagement

We are members or supporters of the following industry bodies:

We believe that regular dialogue with key stakeholders is crucial, so we have ongoing relationships with government departments including the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem), the industry regulator, and with other governmental organisations like the Health and Safety Commission and Executive, the Environment Agency and SEPA. We actively foster good relations with local communities, trade unions and businesses in our supply chain. We also have a number of relationships with universities and research institutes, and encourage dialogue with organisations such as Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, and the Renewable Energy Foundation. We are a member of Forum for the Future's Business Network.

We want to understand more about our stakeholders' aims and concerns and we have established a network of stakeholder owners to co-ordinate our stakeholder relationships and the production of specific stakeholder engagement plans.

We also worked with MORI to help us explore more robust ways of engaging with our stakeholders. We have held a stakeholder workshop in London, which allowed us to share our current thinking on climate change and open the floor to debate and questioning from representatives from the Government, regulators, NGOs and consumer groups and make another step into a more successful stakeholder engagement.
