Located on the site of a former power station, near Coleshill in North Warwickshire, Hams Hall Environmental Studies Centre is owned by E.ON UK and run in partnership with Birmingham City Council, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and Warwickshire County Council.

The centre provides a fully equipped teaching facility and each year over 350 teachers and their pupils of all ages benefit from courses that support the National Curriculum. Since the centre opened its doors, over 160,000 children have visited.

The centre is a stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environment for visiting schools and has a team of qualified teaching staff.

The centre is open to schools during term time and also offers in-service training for teachers.

Facilities include:

  • Two classrooms  
  • Large pond - for pond-dipping and ecology lessons
  • 400 year old timber framed cottage  
  • Picnic area
  • Weather station  
  • Weather satellite system

Staff at the centre tailor visits to meet the needs of schools ensuring pupils get the most out of the facilities and surrounding environment. Lessons available include:

  • Woodland Ecology  
  • Habitats
  • Weather  
  • Historical Studies
  • Electricity production and supply  
  • Orienteering
  • Numeracy, literacy and IT

The Head of Centre can also advise schools on environmental, ecological and sustainability issues.

Positive Success

The centre is monitored by the local education services and in recent years underwent a very successful review and inspection.
