We have recently set up a new occupational health structure and introduced a number of key initiatives.
Key appointments
Our new occupational health structure is led by a team of experienced nurses in each of our UK businesses. They deliver a high-quality and comprehensive occupational healthcare programme that supports the needs of our people.
As well as this, two senior appointments were made to bring fresh expertise and experience to the company.
A new senior occupational nursing adviser has also joined us from the NHS to lead our occupational nursing team. He works closely with our part-time consultant occupational physician, who gives us a strategic overview of our occupational health policy.
Key initiatives
Besides our normal occupational health programme for 2003, we also introduced several other initiatives.
Updating our service agreements, outlining the level of support each of our businesses will offer to help them deliver individual health plans.
Promoting key occupational health issues throughout Powergen, such as managing stress, musculo-skeletal disorders and absence.
Developing an occupational health 'calendar' with different health topics each month. In 2003 topics included heart disease, giving up smoking, sun health and allergies.
Delivering advice and information to support the European Week for Health and Safety, which had dangerous substances as its theme in 2003. This was done using our internal daily online information service, available to all employees.
Rolling out our annual flu vaccination programme, which offers all staff a free flu jab before winter starts
