2003 initiatives

As part of our drive to set the highest possible health and safety standards, we introduced several initiatives during 2003.

2003 initiatives
  • We completed our Health and Safety Management System review and put in place a new set of minimum standards that apply to all our businesses.
  • We launched a new internal Health and Safety Awards scheme to recognise teams and individuals who have made material contributions to improving performance within their own business or at a company-wide level. We believe these awards will encourage best practice by sharing new ideas across Powergen.
  • We held a highly successful health and safety conference which was attended by our 100 top managers from all of our businesses. This gave us the chance to set the agenda on how health and safety will be managed in future and talk about key issues which need special attention.
  • We introduced an online accident reporting system through our company intranet. This lets us streamline the process for reporting accidents, while at the same time making more people aware of the right thing to do if an accident happens.
  • By working closely with each of our businesses and the recognised trade unions, we have established a new drugs and alcohol policy. This means we can now support anyone who has a problem, while making sure health and safety is not compromised.
  • We also successfully integrated our health and safety policy, rules and management systems across the former TXU Energi business we bought at the end of 2002.
