Paiton

PaitonDescription

Paiton II is a 1,220MW coal-fired plant located alongside the existing PLN station and Paiton I in Java, Indonesia. Together, these plants represent the largest concentration of generation in the area.

Operation

Paiton II is operated by a team of 252. The plant consists of two Siemens (HMN type) 610MW turbines, while the boilers are of ABB design. The plant is equipped with low-NOX burners, uses sea water for cooling and has a flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) plant which removes approximately 95% of SO2 emissions.

Ash is classified as a toxic waste under Indonesian legislation. A fully-lined, ash disposal site has therefore been constructed to contain all ash over the entire life of the plant.

Environmental Management System

The site was certified to ISO 14001 in May 2001.

Environmental targets for 2002 include increasing generation efficiency and improving management of stored chemicals on site.
