Gas Apprenticeship

Choose a career with adventure

Choose this apprenticeship and you'll be well on your way to becoming a skilled engineer - joining the specialist team that installs, services and repairs gas central heating boilers and other gas appliances in people's homes.

Our Engineering Academy will support you from the start with a combination of hands-on experience and college-based learning. So you'll have everything you need to gain a Technical Certificate up to NVQ Level 3, approving you as a CORGI qualified engineer.

It's important you enjoy the work you do, so you'll need to feel confident dealing with lots of different people (politely, of course) as you'll spend most of your time in our customers' homes. Handling lots of specialist tools, enjoying manual work is also a must. And, above all, you'll always put safety first - natural gas and gas appliances can be dangerous if not treated with respect.

Once you're qualified (the whole thing takes less than 4 years) you'll find life as a qualified Service Engineer full of variety, with tasks including:

  • Installing and servicing customer's central heating systems and appliances such as gas fires and cookers
  • Diagnosing, finding and repairing faults
  • Designing system upgrades to improve efficiency and flexibility
  • Completing work sheets and records of their visit, the parts used and duration of the visit

Alternatively, you could specialise in installation or service and repair work.
