What Undergraduate role did you apply for at E.ON and what did the position involve?

I took on a position as a Demand Forecasting Analyst in our Retail business. I had to provide electricity consumption forecasts, on the power usage of our industrial and commercial customers, to our Trading department. These forecasts had to be as accurate as possible as any errors could result in significant costs being incurred by E.ON. It was a challenging and responsible role that I felt added real value to the company.

What attracted you to the E.ON Undergraduate scheme?

The graduate scheme seemed like a natural progression having been on the Undergraduate scheme within E.ON. My other motivations for joining were the choice and opportunities that the scheme offered and the breadth of experience I would gain.

Describe your current position at E.ON and responsibilities.

I am on the Energy Services Graduate scheme, which will consist of five different placements within E.ON; I’m currently working within the Metering Strategic Change team. The project I’m working on is looking at the efficiency of metering systems and in particular the new appointment scheduling system that will be used by our meter readers out in the field. I have to analyse existing and future systems to foresee potential implementation problems and liaise with all Stakeholders in the business to ensure their requirements are also met.

What are the most challenging aspects of the role?

The continual growth of the business affects the scope of the projects I’m working on, this coupled with the need to align different stakeholder requirements impacts the projects’ plans and timescales. Good time management skills are essential as is the ability to prioritise.

What skills do you need to your job well?

This role is heavily dependent on good written and verbal communication skills as is the ability to be adaptable.

What do you see yourself doing over the next five years?

E.ON is a large and dynamic company and offers a number of opportunities, but at this stage it’s difficult to isolate one particular area of interest where I could be working. However, the graduate scheme by its very nature will provide me with a clear insight of what different roles and areas of business I might work in over the next five years.
