Pete joined East Midlands Electricity (later became Central Networks, E.ON) in 1975 as an Electrical Apprentice. His training involved both practical on-site experience and academic work within a college environment.
Currently Pete is part of the Operations Team and has specific resposnibility for delivering programmes of internal capital, and all repair works on the 132kv, 33kv, 11kv and low voltage networks. He manages a multifunctional team who are focused on delivering all activities within a specific geographical area.
Since completing his 4 year apprenticeship Pete has had a range of jobs including:
- Applicance repairs electrician
- Emergency shift electrician
- New connections programme manager
- Restoration and repairs incident manager
- Repairs incident manager
Pete believes that apprenticeships offer an opportunity to train and develop inexperienced personnel whilst instilling the culture and beliefs of the organisation. βIt is a major factor within any organisations succession plan for its future skill requirements.β His key tip for anyone considering an apprenticeship is to show commitment and development whilst maintaining personal saftey and environmental awareness.
