Jamie Pennington

Gas Apprentice

Jamie Pennington,   is a gas apprentice at E.ON. "After leaving school, I was looking for an apprenticeship scheme that would allow me to have a career, not just a job. I researched E.ON on the internet as I wanted to find out more about the possible outcomes and what E.ON can offer me long term. I found out that being a big company, E.ON can easily deliver what I was looking for", comments Jamie.

Jamie started his apprentice scheme at E.ON in August 2008. Every day he's picked up by one of the engineers from home, who then goes with him to inspect customer houses. "Our responsibility is to make sure that their gas systems are safe and in good condition. I mostly deal with installation and maintenance, which is a perfect mix of experience that will allow me to achieve my diploma", explains Jamie.

Jamie is studying towards an NVQ qualification. He's also receiving specialist gas training at E.ON's Engineering Academy, together with thirteen other apprentices. "It's very helpful to have this network and we keep in touch outside the classroom as well. These contacts are great help when I'm working on my portfolio", comments Jamie.

What's Jamie's advice for prospective candidates? "Do your homework, research E.ON on the Internet and show the interviewer that you are knowledgeable about the company. And then just relax at the meeting!"
"I'm eager to continue my career at E.ON and would like to become a qualified engineer. I hope my employer will help me to achieve my goal. Meanwhile, I'll keep enjoying my challenging and diverse work", Jamie says.
